Jakarta Trip 2006

Shannon has just come back from Jakarta. It’s really a good experience for learning and to have a preliminary cognition of Jakarta. If she never been there, she has a lot of misunderstanding of Indonesian. "Thanks God to send me over there and open my mind!" Shannon said.

She got some information from her Hong Kong colleague in Jakarta, a portion of Indonesian was Christian and there was also Buddhist; certainly, there was large portion of Muslim. Shannon was happy to know that there was one security guard and one QC in the office were Christian as she did not expect; whereas the office with less than 20 employees. She observed that they could work together harmony. At least, Shannon found that her colleagues were nice to her.

On the second day at Jakarta, Shannon believed that God had prepared a special to her to let her see that God did his job in Indonesia. She recognized two guys in the factory, one was Indonesian oversea Chinese called Fendy and one was Indonesian called Edward. After working of that day, they were talking in the car. Shannon's Indonesian colleague said that he loved the waterfall decoration of the Chinese factory. Shannon told him that it’s “Fung Shiu” of Chinese. He really loved it; but Shannon told him that she did not believe it. Fendy to be excited and said, “You don’t believed Fung Shiu then you must believe God! You believe Jesus!” What’s a shock? Shannon said, “How can you know that? I’m Christian.” When Shannon's colleague heard that she was Christian, then he said, “You can talk with Edward, he is also a Christian.” Oh! My God! There were four persons in the car, three were Christians and one was Muslim. Edward told her that a few years before, he invited devil entered his life, his friend brought him to Christian Church, someone saw few of ghosts inside him. Then they helped Edward by praying to God and to drive the ghost leave him. After that, he decided to trust God, Jesus Christ. Edward trusts God very firmly, Shannon could observe that from his manner of speaking. Fendy was so happy and asked Shannon a lot of information of her Church, such as the condition of worship and preaching. He has to serve in Church. Fendy said that their Church had sent one pastor in HK. He showed Shannon that there was a sticker on the car window “Jesus Is My Savior”. Oh yes! Great! They shared their religious; when Shannon said “Jesus saved my life”, she could see that they were touching. Shannon was also aware that the hi-fi in car was broadcasting nice and peaceful music; Fendy showed her that the music was for worship. Other than that, they found that both of them had joined the Global Day of Prayer on 6/4; they were praying at the same day but in different country of the world. Fendy gave his church tract to Shannon, their Church name was “Gereja Bethel Indonesia”.

What marvelous of our God? Thought Shannon. Even they was in different race, nationality and spoke in different language, they understood each others and their hearts were hot when talked about their God. Praise God!

During factory visit, Shannon saw a lot of girls warp their head with scarf and some of them entered to a room for praying. She felt a little bit uncomforted, she knew that she was in Islam country. She prayed for them, she hoped that they could get savior of Jesus Christ. When she walked through each factories, she prayed by heart.

Shannon thanked God that sent her over there, granted her a chance to learn and experience her Lord. She was so unwilling to go previously, but for God, she tried to step out. As she believed that this was the mission for her in Jakarta.

Prayer: Loving God, help us to be the people you would have us be. Help us daily to rid ourselves of anything that prevents us from doing your will. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
